For those that have "been there, done that", today we do it on a 1985 Catalina 30. Wish me luck. Might have to take out a loan, Lol!

I'll be interested in your report. What prompted the change?

I just replaced mine a month ago on my 1989 catalina30. We needed 23 ' of hose , which shocked me but that's what it took. I had help from a friend who had done his , and his went smooth! Mine ,not so much. We made a sleeve to join the old to new so we could pull it through as he had done for his, but couldn't budge the hose. After much thought as to what may be happening , we removed the stove and cut a inspection port in the liner and from there could see that the hose was being wedged down between the liner and hull. At this point with the two of us and my son we would lift , push and pull and within an hour had it through .i should add I replaced mine as it was picked up on my survey that it had cracking on the hose near transom.all is working great now .

Cheers

Old hoses crack. Ours did, so we replaced it earlier this year or late last year, 25-26 year old hose. I'd read all over about butting the old and new together. Doesn't work, since many of the holes from the factory or are so tight that you need to "be there" to push or pull the new hose through. When the lockers that your hose runs through start getting gray, it's the exhaust gas. Inspect the entire length to see the little cracks. Change the hoses. It's a once-in-a-decade-or-two job that's very worthwhile.

Like Stu - survey said it was cracked and needed changing.
Two man job for sure. Ours had a sleeve in the hose in the port side laz. Bill emptied it and climbed inside. The rest of the hose was good. I stood on my head in the rear laz, removed the plate and used a mirror to see the hose clamps. We pulled it out throught the port side laz and went to WM for 9 feet of hose $$$$$$$. I lubed both ends with pipe goop and it went back together with no problem.

couplings and exhaust flap

Found this post and was curious about needed hose length and exhaust flap.

I just recently bought this '77 C30 from the yard and they dont know anything about the condition. Part of the hose is actually laying in cockpit as if it was cut off. Part of it I can still see in the sail locker. the cut off part is in pretty bad shape but only on ends not the middle part. Does anyone know if you can get any type of coupling that would allow me to use the good parts of this old hose? They charge 12.50 per foot here locally and I would welcome to save few bucks if I can.

Second question is about the actual through the hull exhaust flap part. This sounds stupid but is it located? where does the exhaust hose it go to outside?

Yes, you can buy couplings for the 1 5/8" exhaust hose.
Google search for "1 5/8 exhaust host coupling" doesnt return anything on the coupling. Just offer to buy new hose.

I will second the value of cutting an access port behind the stove. There is a "pinch point" with the liner and ice box in the area, and being able to manipulate the hose there makes it much easier. Just cover it with a thin sheet of stainless and some screws or what not. Since the hole you cut and then cover will be hidden behind the stove/oven anyway it's not a big deal cosmetically.
