Exhaust Hose Loop Banging - Northern Lights Generator

When running my Northern Lights Generator on my 2000 Hunter 460, the exhaust loop in the aft starboard locker has begun to bang against the inside of the hull. It's a pretty good hit as I can hear it and feel it when I am sitting in the salon. I attempted to 'hold' the hose with my hand and I can 'slow down' the movement, but I can not arrest it. The knocking started a week or two ago after many years of smooth operation.

What would cause the such a strong force in the exhaust line? Yes, I know that it is the exhaust water that it is pushing. But why is it pushing with such strong pulses, rather than a smoother flow?

Thank you,
Rob

I would check the hose, thru hull and waterlift muffler for an obstruction. Perhaps the hose has collapsed?

Thank you for the suggestion. I checked those all out. It all looks good.

So, I have addressed the symptoms. I have tie-wrapped the Generator Exhaust Hose loop to my Engine Exhaust Hose loop and, of course, the noise has gone away. But, I don't feel good about it, because I know that I've only addressed the symptoms and not the root cause of the 'thump'.

I had a similar noise from my engine exhaust hose banging against a locker wall. The manufacturer-supplied tie wrap securing the hose had worn out. Found it in the bilge. A new tie wrap solved my problem.

Alan K,
Thank you for the reply. So, may my addressing the symptom IS the solution to the problem, although I have not found, nor do I recall, there being a tie-wrap supplied with the original configuration. But it has addressed the noise (for now).
Thanks again.
