I was wondering if anyone has added an extension to the engine exhaust on the stern to keep the transom cleaner from swirling exhaust

I would ask you the same question as Higgs. If you transom is getting that dirty I would wonder if my engine is operating properly. Having too much prop is a common cause. There could also be some other engine issues, but this is a good thing to have checked.
Have a similar prop sized for your boat and compare the specs to your current prop.

Not that it gets real dirty and I have had all checked out and yard mechanic says it is fairky normal as I have to run engine pretty hard against tide . I say one on a boat that whent buy and looke real practical , it was only about 6 inches long
Reminds me.. While sailing by Thomas Point Light off Annapolis one fine day, we encountered a very nice looking older boat motoring along toward us. As he passed, we saw he had rigged a "tail" of what looked like clothes dryer vent hose to keep the smoke off his pristine transom.. The tail was about 8 feet(!) long and wagged and pooped along behind.. The effect was comical and really unfortunate !! Ya don't want to do that ! Wish I'd have taken a picture..
The PO used a two inch piece of pvc pipe with a 30º bend, downward. He seems to have attached it with caulk, or something similar (it wiggles a little when touched). His motivation was to keep from squirting water in his dinghy, and instead direct it back to the sea (or actually the lake). It seems to work well...
We have a number of Catalina owners at our club that have used a small extension to their boats exhaust. They've taken a small medical sample bottle that is handed out by your doctor, removed the top and cut out the bottom with a knife. This open cylinder friction fits into the exhaust vent on a Catalina and offers a 3" extension to the exhaust which is just enough to stop the exhaust from fouling the stern. It can be easily replaced if lost during the season, but surprisingly they last for years.
I think someone tried that and decided it was too much back pressure for such a small engine?
I'm experimenting with an extension for my honda 2000. Tapped the exhaust port and screwed in a short brass nipple, added on a bushing and then a piece of flexable 1" aluminum conduit. Carries the exhaust away from the boat and muffles the sound a bit. Gets HOT. I did not run this under the water, just out the back of the transom over the pushpit.
