While analyzing another problem with my M25X diesel, vintage 1895, I noticed that the fabric-wrapped elbow where cooling sea water enters the exhaust flow appears to be weeping. I presume that whatever internal conducting device (hose or pipe) has rotted through. Is this a repair or replace device?

mixing elbo

The mixing elbo that is leaking is a "replace" item. I replaced the one on my 36 last year. I went through Catalina, but it took too long. In retrospect, I would have it made locally and have it made of stainless steel so as to never have to revisit it again. good luck, Gary

A weeping exhaust elbow may be a very serious problem. My Universal 5411 elbow had a pin hole leak that started a fire on the galley island bulkhead. Not a fun experience. The elbow material was standard threaded pipe from the factory (1982). I had a local boat yard replace the damaged elbow, reuse the asbestos wrapping, and install a heat shield at the bulkhead. Good luck on the repair...
