Hello I recently purchased a 1978 Ericson 29 with an Atomic 4. The gas tank is in need of replacement. I would welcome any information on the subject and hearing from owners who also had to replace their gas tanks. Thank You Bob

What happened to the old one?

I wonder if you actually need a new one. Have you verified the material it is made from? Be sure to use an electric box fan to ventilate dangerous gas fumes while doing any fuel system work.

Gas Tank Replacement

The tank is probably metal and had corroded. Pump all the gas out of it and remove and strapping holding it down then take it out. If it was glassed in you may need to cut it out with a sawzall or some other saw. If you need to cut the tank itself first fill it with water to remove gas vapors. Could be messy... You should be able to find a replacement tank from Tempo. West MArine carries then and if you search online you can find the complete lineof Tempo tanks. One of their sizes should fit. I would go for something around 20 gallons, but if youknow the old tank size best bet for weight distibution on the boat would be to probably stict to that size. You may also wan tto post this question on the ericsonyachts.org list as it is frequented much more than this one and you can search for E-29 specific answers.
