I have a Yanmar 2GM20f in my 2003 326. When I am at low rpm their is a slight whistle or squeek coming from engine. It sounds like it is right below my feet by the shaft area. Even though the engine is 7 years old, it only has 100 hours. Could this be the stuffing box. Any idea areas I can check. When I accelerate the sound goes away.

We have a 2009 31. The belts made a similar sound. Simple adjustment. We still had our boat yard take a peek just in case it was something more.

40 years ago my old Ford car developed just such a squeak. I ran it into the garage and the mechanic and I stood looking and listening to it with the hood up.
Then he said "Look away for a moment" I did and when I looked back the squeak was gone.
Eventually he let me into the secret. The fan belt was squeaking on the dynamo pulley. Not a slack belt but just rubbing on the cheeks of the pulley. What he had done was to whip the dipstick out and just touch it on the belt. A tiny drip of engine oil on the side of the belt stopped it squeaking.
Lesson learned - thanks pal. No charge.

Maybe your problem also?

Thank you. I will try those 2 suggestions. The stuffing box appears to be dripping at the proper rate and the belts are pretty tight. Sound only happens when I am in forward gear.

I had this same type of squeek in my 2GM20F prior to replacing the cutless bearing. After replacement, squeek gone...

ooh.. all I got for my cutlass is cloaking like lots of loose marbles until I change it out, the cutlass not marbles.

Have you recently adjusted your packing or replaced the packing??? While it could just be a harmonic type whistle of some sweet spot, I also know that if you had repacked (like with gortex packing) and you hear a whistle more like a whirring - its could be your packing hasn't "set" or saturated yet. I'd watch it for leaking after running under load for a while and also feel for heat. But the packing does take a while to "set" and may need further adjustment. keep an eye/hand (latter when not stopped -not running) on it
