My 410 is now 20 years old. I am wondering if the engine mounts should be replaced. Any advice on engine mount life?

It is probably good thinking, but how do they look and feel? Cracked? Hard? Does the engine vibrate more or is it louder than you're use to?

They'll be bad when the upper steel plate of the mount starts tapping the lower plate of the mount.. usually at idle or low RPM underway.. You can measure the clearance (installed under engine weight load) at three points on each mount, front, aft, and middle.. they should be close and none less than 1/4" or so.. depending on number of hours, exposure to heat or solvents, and a few other things, they can last 20-30 years.... or considerably less.. they are expensive enough to measure carefully rather than just change 'em

Everything that @kloudie1 says PLUS, if you haven't done an alignment check recently (or ever), notice if the drive shaft axis is much below the prop shaft axis when the flange is first separated. This will indicate if your mounts are failing.

Our 1991 mounts remain in good condition. No symptoms at the moment.
