I recently purchased a 1979 27' Hunter, Cherubini model. The boat is great, but am having a peculiar problem. It seems that after sailing on a starboard tack, when we turn the engine on, we can not get water thru the intake, at least not promptly-sometimes it takes several tries. Has anyone else experienced this problem, found a solution? When we are on a port tack, no problem. We think that the intake through hull fitting is coming out of the water when the boat is on a starboard tack and then when it levels a vacuum has been created which prevents water from entering the intake. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
