Email notifications of new posts

This is only of interest for users who rely on email notifications of new posts to a thread you started, or are watching.

As you probably noticed, the default setting in this new forum software sends only one email notification and then stops sending anything until you visit the forum. There's alogic in this, as it avoids mail overload if you leave your computer for a few days. However, you can also miss important posts.

We now have a plug-in installed that gives you the option to override that, and receive an email for every new post in a thread you are watching. The default setting is "off" so you have to intentionally turn this on. Here's how:

Put your mouse over your username in the upper right. Select Alert Preferences

On the next screen, the setting is in the top group. Just check the box as shown:

Phil,
This is a good improvement.

One thing I noticed the last week was, there used to be an option in the email alert to disable alerts from the particular thread. I see what was changed & now when viewing the thread & then clicking on "thread tools" to ignore the thread, sometimes I still get notifications for the thread. Has anyone else mentioned this?

Otherwise, things in the new version are running well pal.

Thanks,
CR

Haven't heard anything about that, but it would be a tricky bug to notice so I may not have bee noticed yet. You may be getting notifications because you're following the whole forum; the thread watch is canceled the but the forum watch is not. I'm not sure if those two systems talk to each other. And, I may not know what I'm talking about! :)

Pat - I sent you a PM about login.

Thanks Phil. I think this is the best forum I've seen. It's clear that lots of thought has gone into making it user friendly.

Have you restablished the weekly summary email that recapped new posted from watched forums?

This's feature used to work in the old format and the summary email was received every Monday morning.

@LaColla I have an embarrassing question... did we have that on the old forum? We send a Monday Mail Newsletter but it doesn't connect to followed threads or anything. Bottom line, we don't have that now but if we did before please help me remember. Getting old sucks. :)

@RussC ... I had turned the user option off. I _think_ I did that to enable it for everyone without users having to turn it on. That was meant to be a short-term introduction anyway, so it is enabled again.

Yes, an email arrived every Monday morning for each subscribed forum. It listed new posts since the week before and below listed updated posts. It was a very good way of keeping track of it all.

I can't find any trace of it in the vBulletin plugins, but if by any wild chance you still an old one have lurking in your inbox please forward it to phil at sailbaoatowners.com. Thanks!
