It must be obvious from my posts that I am about to purchase a 30 footer, decommission it myself and have it shipped from Charleston, SC to Atlanta, GA. Knowledge is great thing and needless to say everyone who responded to prior posts have been very helpful. Your knowledge and experience is greatly appreciated. As I become more experienced, I hope to help out fellow owners as well. My questions: As they lift the mast from the deck (boom truck) just where are the wires nested for the lights (deck, steaming and anchor, etc)? I am not familiar with the mast step setup on the 30. Do they lie on deck with connectors exposed, hidden in a pocket, or within the mast step well? What length can I expect the wires to be? Any recommedations for maintenance or replacement (83 model). Thanks Bob

Catalina 30 Mast wires

Your mast sits on a metal plate bolted to the deck positioned over the mast post in the cabin. The wires feed up through a hole in the wood post in the cabin and through the center of the metal plate into what is now inside your mast. You can see the bottom end of the wires in the bilge going into your mast compression post. As you raise the mast, the wires will become apparent. They should have disconnects at the base of the mast with sufficient extra wire length to raise the mast up about a foot to access them and disconnect. Mine was a single 4-prong connector for the lights, and an antenna cable. Make sure there is a good seal around the wires on top of the metal plate, as this is an easy place for water to invade.
