Does anyone know what pedestal comes standard on a 1988 Cat 30 MK II? Looking to change pedestal guard and don't know specs. I will be adding a NavPod to hold a Garmin 2006 C Chartplotter and other instruments. I am 6' 4" tall. Any recommendations regarding the use of the Edson Pedestal Guard that is 58" tall, should I go with the angled one or the offset one? As always, thanks for the opinions.

We have an '88 Catalina 30 MKII. The steering pedestal is an Edson #335. I believe this has been replaced by the current Edson #336-5-211 Pedestal Steerer. They share the same parts. The original (straight) guard is called an Edson #662 45 Pedestal guard. We've found the people at Edson to be very helpful and knowledgeable. Just give 'em a call and they'll help you out. They also have an on-line catalog at www.edsonintl.com Regards, Gary Kunkel Catalina 30 Folie A Deux Channel Islands Hbr, CA

I went straight

I also have a 88 Catalina 30. I went with the straight guard and it works well for me. But if I had it to do over, I think the angled guard might make it a little easier to read the instrumnents when standing at the helm. I have a Standard Horizon CP150 mounted in my NavPod. The little white round thing on the top of the guard is a home made mount for my hand held GPS. (Can't have too many GPS's on board)

ANGLEGUARD!!!!!!!!

I went with the angleguard. Salesman nearly insisted when I bought my new 270. I am tickled that he did. Last year I added an additional navpod for a chartplotter and a ram mic. Would have been unable with a straight guard. Plus, it gets the navpods "out of your face" with it's recess......ie: farther away from the helmsman. Also, I you are going to run alot of new electronic, Edson has 1.25 tubing now for the guards.....to accomodate lots of internal wiring. Good Luck! Doug

Nav Pod for I went straight.

Where did you get the navpod for your Standard Horizon CP150?

I purchased the NavPod through WestMarine. But I know you can get them from numerous sources. I ordered the unit with no precut holes. The CP150 comes with a cutout template and I just used that to cut the hole for it. No problems. The CP150 works great and I really enjoy having it at the helm position.
