Edson Pedestal Guard

I'm posting here because this is a bit odd for the "gear wanted" section.

I am reverting an Edson pedestal from a high, bent guard with a huge Navpod instrument pod on it, back to the original size guard. My wife can't see over the big pod.

The guard dimensions are 1" tube on 9.5" centers and about 40 or 45" high, with a simple, half-circle bend at top. Edson no longer makes that size guard.

I assume when folks add higher, bent guards they may just throw the old guard in the basement or garage. Does anyone have one they would consider parting with?

Thanks!

I have a pretty good pile of them, but most have holes drilled into them and are not very pretty. You would be best to purchase a NavPod SG10 guard which is a 1" OD X 9.5" Wide straight pedestal guard from NavPod. These are less money than the Edson was anyway. Just cut it to the height you prefer with a pipe cutter..

I use the SG10 quite often when folks don't want a huge mission control NavPod..

Thanks, MaineSail, that's an excellent alternative.

If you guys are talking about the Edson Angle Guard.......wouldn't a pod mounted on the angle be about the same height as say a 3 instrument pod mounted on the straight vertical guard?

Thanks, but no; the pod I'm talking about replacing is huge, like this:

As I stated, my 5'2" wife can't see over it. It just completely blocks her view. I want to go to a standard guard, and use Edson arm-mount pods on both sides, one larger one for a 7" chart plotter, and a a single instrument one for the autopilot controller, or something like that.

I have one 48" high that I just replaced this season. It has one hole drilled at around 41-42" where I had an Edson arm with a single Navpod. I'd take $35.00 plus shipping if you want it.

You can take the one you have and cut the length down. Problem you get into is interference with the magnetic compass. Raymarine says you should be 3ft away but I haven't had any issues being a bit closer.

I was thinking about replacing mine for the Navpod that MS suggests because I want to place a 7" chartplotter over the compass. Perhaps we could trade ... Mine is in good condition, as far as I can tell. No holes in it yet.

In order to get the lowest pod, just cut both vertical tubes, put 90-degree elbows, then straight tube across.

Why not just cut the one you have to a lower height and add the side arms?

The one I have is bent forward, to give the right viewing angle with a pod. See the pic, above.

I had one made once. Bought the tubing at WM and took it down the street to an electrical supply place to be bent on thier big conduit bender. Turned out great and was a lot cheaper than the Edson part.

I cut them to an owners desired height all the time. Sadly too few installers ever do this. The viewing angle does not change just cut 3-5" off each leg bottom and bring the bottom of the pod closer to the compass..

I do, butI haven't taken it off the boat yet. I assume you're interested in the tall, bent one with the Navpod? Please send me a message.

Bend it more to lay flatter then make wedges to correct the viewing angle to the pod.
