Has anyone had any experience with this new bottom paint? Sounds interesting but it is expensive- $300 pergallon.

Practical sailor has article of study of paint in October 2012 this month. They did a 9 month study of new paint coming out. The ecoclad 2-partcoating paint didn't get good reviews. The bio-booster was none, zinc was elemental copper and rating for that was also none. The test was none in Florida for 9 month study on this paint and rated the paint as fair. They did study of other paint for 20, and 36 month. Maybe you have a friend who get Parctical Sailor and you can read articles.

After recovering from the sticker shock, I decided to look up the operating principle of this latest bottom paint miracle. Without wanting to appear too harsh IMHO ........ "ABSOLUTE SNAKE OIL".
I took just one page out of their fact filled write-up and almost every other line is a complete contradiction of what we know about anti-fouling paint. We've got everything from bugs who love to eat the epoxy resin in Ecoclad to high purity copper which is a nutrient for the bugs. Boy, I'll bet that tastes good

I think we can put this in the same bucket with Coppercoat bottom paint which we ultimately learned (from the fine print) has to be "burnished" four times per year to remain effective.
I wonder if the guys who dream up this stuff used to be hedge fund salesmen.

Overpriced products that may or may not work are easy to detec. They usually appear out of nowhere with a very expensive advertisement campaign voicing many claims and providing testimony from unknowns or paid spokesmen. Stick with the true and tested products put out by well known manufacturers where you might know someone that had good results. If I don't know if the product is any good I'm sure not going to pay 2 to 3 times what a quality tested product would sell for.
