Dual guages off Engine Temp Sensor???

I have the Yanmar "B" engine panel with the warning light and buzzer for overheating. I was wondering if I could tap into the temperature sensor and place a temperature gauge next to the panel? If not could I take the sensor wire that leads to the panel and use it for a temperature gauge? Thanks. Jon

Here is a link to what I posted several years ago. It has been working great since then.

Nick.. Where did you purchase the fittings and what size did you use? The ID of my hose is 5/8". Thanks... Jon

ACE hardware

All I did was match up the size of my heater hose and think the hose was 5/8
and just went to ACE in the plumbing dept and used the proper size fitting's.
And the photo is not really my setup but off another 356 with a 3GM30 but my 3YM30 is pretty much the same setup.
And got the gauge and sender VDO from I think defender.

Ace

The Ace on 41 in PC should have it and that store is Hughhhhhhhh
but I am near the ACE on Kings Highway behind Burger King but bring a sample of hose if you can not sure what size I have and did have to drill for the ground
and use a self tap small screw with plumbers putty sealer just in case.
Like I said the photo is from a 356 3GM30 and my 3YM30 is a little different but
the brass fittings should be easy to do.
The photo is my 3YM30 but did also drill for ground.

Thanks Nick! Yours looks super! The Ace on 41 was actually out but found it all at Isles Hardware. I prefer to support the locals if I can! Next step is the self tap screw. Thanks again!

Tee

Start with small hole and than small screw maybe stainless prevent rust
and let the screw make its own threads and use small tube of sealer no dripping
I love my ACE here in PC and use the ACE in PG too I get rewards back but the ACE on 41 in PC is so big and carry everything and my boat is in PG but live in PC.

Here's what I ended up doing... At first I cut the hose for the temperature gauge and installed it... However, when I started the engine I didn't like the amount of vibration present. I after looking at Nick's picture I installed the temperature gauge as in the attached picture... Solid, no vibrations to cause problems down the road. Ran it out in the harbor the other day for about 30 minutes or so and the temp never went over 160. I feel much better having the gauge now.

Had anyone used the engine watchdog? It is a temp sensor that just attaches to the engine block anywhere you can find a bolt or nut to screw it down with.
