I have registered my DSC equiped radio and set up the current location data in the memory. What do I need to get the thing to update to the current position as we move?

If your GPS & VHF have the capability to connect for realtime positioning, you should find them in the manuals' wiring sections. My Garmin had a one wire connection to the DSC equipped VHF.
If your comfortable with electrical on your boat, the hardest part will be the wire routing.

You can connect the VHF to an external GPS antenna or if you have a chart plotter with an integrated GPS there may be a NEMA output that you can patch into with the appropriate adaptor plug to into to get real time positioning data. On my Raymarine "c" series plotter, I use an external GPS antenna connected to the plotter and use the NEMA 0183 output on the plotter to patch into the VHF. Hardest thing is to pull the wire and to locate an adaptor plug.

I did not mention an antenna. My VHF/DSC radio has a connection point for a direct link to my GPS, which has a DSC connection point also. It only required an electrical connection.

What radio? If it doesn't have a built-in GPS, you need to connect one to the radio to make it work. RTFM.
