Drainage in Cockpit Quadrant Compartment (30)

I was cleaning the cockpit up last weekend and checked out the compartment below the steering wheel that contains the steering quadrant and emergency tiller connection. It was absolutely loaded with debris! It appeared after running a hose into the compartment and loosening everything from dead insects to dog hair that the water just pooled up and never drained. I used my little hand held pump to extract the standing water. I know their has to be a weep hole, because I would see water come out during rain events, but I could not locate it because that huge quadrant wheel takes up the space. Does anyone know where this compartment drains? It was not the bilge.....Its the 1988 model. Thanks Bob Breezin II Lake Lanier, Ga

Quadrant Drain

I have a 1988 - the hole is in the rear of the space and the hose runs thru the stern locker to a fitting above the exhaust. Also, it's not a 'weep hole' it's approximately 5/8".....

Same thing

We had the same issue on our 1988 Catalina 30. I ended up cleaning out everything I could reach, then we held a water hose against the small thru-hull on the stern through which the steering reservoir drains. There is a small drain hole under the quadrant (actually radial). That's connected to a hose which is connected to the small above-water thru-hull on the transom. We were able to blow the line clear and the thing drains well now. You can also take the radial off the rudder but that's a lot more work. Gary Kunkel

Thanks Guys..

Appreciate the feedback. The quadrant hides any signs of a hole, so I at least know now I can back flush with a hose from the transom. Bob
