In the winter on the lee side (like Isthmus) you pick the mooring up backwards, in that your bow is facing out. It is tough to do in that is is counter-intuitive. I have found that backing to the pin is the least disruptive and best for the crew. OTOH, if you are into watching everyone make fools of themselves, just approach as normal; tell them it's backwards and watch the fun begin!

Heck yes, experiment! Whatever works is good for you. If it has problems, you will know real fast! Believe me, I picked up a string line for a lot of years, and it's way harder than a mooring.

In case you missed it, they will be making reservations for moorings on-line around June. I think they have already been doing it for string lines for a year or so. Also, you should try Cat Harbor a couple of times in the season. You can anchor very near the dingy dock and it is a great place for swing-keel boats. Let us know your schedule. I would love to offer that Adult Beverage!
I'll be going over the weekend of July 8 if not sooner. I've always wanted to stay in Cat Harbor. I have a shoal draft now but it should be ok. Looking forward to that drink.

I just put it on the calendar. It's a tough time for us, but we'll try to be there. Let's connect a couple of weeks before.

I think Timo42 is taking his boat over for the first time. Might be able to convinced JRaile and others.

We actually find this easier, but you know us, we are always doing things backwards!
