Do you have locker lid supports?

I think there are a couple of models of struts that would suffice for both the locker lids and the nav top. But I am not willing to spend that much money requiring new holes to mount. The newer, larger springs might work. But I'll stick with the rope or bungy approach. Here's a pretty good source of non-springs: http://www.sugatsune.com/products/productss.cfm?CATID=8&SUBCATID=1 .

And I do plan to replace the gasketing. It will happen after I finish the cockpit painting. Originally it was on the flat surface around out the lip of the locker. The sharp edge of the lid sat on the gasket. It lasted for years so maybe that is the way. It does provide a waterproof seal.

Interesting product, Ed. I particularly like the spring loaded ones. Look like you have to pull the locker lid down instead of having it fall down unexpectedly any time you barely touch the old spring style ones.
Fill me in a little about the locker lid gaskets, Ed. I don't think I have seen any remnants of same on either of the Cherubinis I have owned.

It is just one of those sticky-backed weather seal products Bill. It is on the boat and I cannot remember the brand name. The original was more of a foam, about 1/4" wide and thick. It was positioned so that the edges of the lid set on it for the full circumference. I looked for a picture of a locker but don't have one showing the edges. My new "gasket" is rubber instead of foam. This company has lots of options: http://www.trimlok.com/ . I have also seen these used: http://www.trimlok.com/cat/Edge-Trim/Browse-All-Products_102.aspx.

Thanks for the clarification, Ed. I doubt that this type of trim would be original. I doubt Hunter put any trim around the cockpit lockers. I also doubt that the mating surfaces would be close enough that trim or gasket would make the lockers watertight in the event of a rollover. Be really nice if everyone disagrees with me on this. If they do, I will be sure to install same if I ever decide to take Little Wing to the salty waters. I am pretty confident I won't be rolling over in the North Channel, even though it can get pretty nasty.

Ed, do you know if your hatch lids actually press down on the gasketing? My qualm about locating the stuff in the right place was that I didn't want a near-miss. It won't work unless it makes contact all around.

My lids do fit well JC. I attribute that to the hasps that have been there since before I owned the boat. They were installed so that the locker lids are snug with the hasp secured. I believe that with a 1/4" thickness the lid edge would contact around the entire perimeter. If I weren't so lazy I could prove that with strips of carbon paper or thin strips of Playdough. :)

And it is not just about leak proof. It also makes the boat quieter and it protects those locker edges. Mine are painted and constantly dropping them on hard fiberglass chips the paint.
