Disposing of an old boat

Do you guys think there is any value in the mast or boom?
The mast would make a good flagpole, I would not think there is much call for the rest of the parts near you nor would it be worth the time to catalog and ship but I'd give it a shot. There may very well be someone with that boat looking for those pieces that is willing to pay but doubtful I suspect.

I honestly don't understand people with boats sometimes. I've seen it a lot. This boat was reportedly sailed the day before it was parked here in 86.
"Out of sight, out of mind?"
It was pretty nice for the time. It had a galley, cooktop, and nice hardware.
Some more questions:
It has two 6-Lewmar winches. Any value there? Should I clean up for spares? How hard is that?
It has a lot of hardware. Snap shackles, pulleys, etcetera. Should I salvage them? Some have lechin growing in them. How would I get that off?...lol

I've heard, but never seen it myself, that big landfills will chop us fiberglass boats and use the chunks to fuel their incinerator. No doubt the stuff burns but I'd never recommend anyone ever do a backyard demo and burn the fiberglass in a pit or bonfire... The fumes would probably kill ya and I'm sure you could possibly end up in jail if any Hippy down-wind gets a wiff of that putrid stench in their snot-locker and calls the Fire Dept.
On the bright side... I'm sure there salvageable hardware, and the mast will be worth something to someone. If the keel is lead its worth the salvage value to haul it in... cast iron not so much but you'll still get something.
Winches can be cleaned and refurbished, anything stainless go go into a descaler bath and will clean up nice.

Guys there are federal laws on disposing of boats you must report it to fwc or dmv but if cut up and trashed thats what it will become trash . otherwise the burden fall on the last regeistered owner if found by the road or waterway. destroy the boat save the metel for scrap lead brings in a lot of money these days

If it has a working trailer, try the local PBS station, they accept boats, cars etch and resell or dispose of them to get funds . They even come get it and provide a donation sheet for taxes deduction.

Why the hell did he distroy that boat? The C&C 24 is a great-sailing boat, and the video shows how well they're built. Guess nobody wants a 24ft sailboat any more :(

You have to wonder what it had drastically wrong with it that it couldn't be sold? Possibly really nasty blisters but more likely it had no paperwork. Where it was located in the country probably had most to do with why it couldn't sell. Also being a fixed keel it might have had destroyed keel bolts that weren't worth the work to repair.
It is a bit a bummer... a 24ft boat would be perfect for people in my area who are looking for a nice boat to keep on mooring ball in Mission Bay since the LOA limit is 25 feet. Problem with a fixed keel for me is that its too tall to fit in my shop for restoration, my door is only 8 ft wide - thats why I have a swing keel 22.

well, if I didn't want it for some unique use, I'd drag it out to the center of one of my pastures and just burn it.
From the few videos of boat fires that I've seen, it should go up pretty well and leave almost nothing behind.

I was in an old boat yard a few days ago. They had an old boat that they were cutting small sections to re-use for repairs. The glass was in good shape, so they had cut several chunks out of it and used them to patch other boats.

It was like watching a wreck happen. I watched all four videos. I couldn't stop .

Actually, I have some toys that this gentleman does not have. Lifting it will be much easier for me with the tractor. I also have a "widow maker" chainsaw that is significantly larger than his saws.

The option I like best is to:
•Strip the hardware
•Cut the keel out with a chainsaw
•Toss it on my flatbed with my tractor and •take it to the dump.

Do you guys think there is any value in the mast or boom? Just recycle it? What will it be made of from 1975?

Extruded aluminum. I just paid $600 for 32 year old 25' mast. Definitely worth a shot trying to sell it! Or turn it into a flag pole for your house.

Here in Southeastern Michigan, a small local speedway has a figure 8 boat demolition derby once a year with trucks pulling old boats on trailers. It's a real "hoot." The drivers plan it out to pretty much only hit the boats which are swept off the track in a zillion pieces at the end of the race. I think most of the trailers survive for another day and another race.
