First, C.T. is your mast a Z Spar and if so, you might want to see if this forum can arrange something working with U.S. Spars out of Gainesville, Florida. Z Spar without going into it, pulled out of the country and now the extrusions, etc. that US Spars sells is actually the Z Spar. Catalina at the time had their own masts made which the spars were much different. Catalina and Hunter now use Selden Masts.
When using a different mast by purchasing a used one, there are many things to consider. First the mast step and associated hardware have to be considered if compatible. On some boats the mast step is not as easy to remove and you need to notice the height of the mast step off the deck as one consideration. Placement of the spreaders is another as the spreaders have to be angled backwards and the list goes on not to mention the all important lengths of the standing rigging because one mistake and then you are into big bucks. Then a used mast, I personally would give it a close inspection to make darn sure there is no damage because you would need to know why it is used and sitting in a salvage yard.
The suggestion to get a rigger is a good one. I cannot remember his name and the name of the company but in Florida there is a rigger who used to be the manager of the US Spars location in Gainesville and he knows the Z Spar and US Spars all too well. It mighty behoove you to find out who that is as you are dealing with a B & R rig which does not require a backstay.
The Hunter 430 is a big investment and find it odd as to why you have no insurance on the boat. Aside from repairs and contents, is it really a big risk not to have at least liability on that boat in the event you are in an accident or incident where you wish you had insurance or run the risk of loosing everything you own. I use to be a Hunter and Catalina dealer not to mention a former military pilot but also an adjuster but later investigator for insurance companies just pointing out some things to consider . As for Craigs List, just be careful.
