I am interested in getting dighy davits for my C30. The dink is a Watertender 9.3 -- rigid hull. It only weighs about 120lbs and won't include the engine on the davits. I am trying to find davits that are easily mounted without much drilling into the transom or aft rail area. My c30 is a 1983.

Davits for a Cat 30

I recently installed davits on my 88 Cat 30. They are made by Ocean Marine Systems, P.O Box #32581, Aberdeen Ctr. Richmond, B.C. Canada. The unit manufactured for the Cat 30 is the SD40. It comes with all the fittings, easy to install, and will cary a dighy and motor to about 350lbs. Total price is about $950 US. Call them toll free at 800 883 2848. I found them to be great people to deal with. Hope this of some help.

The coolest davits I've ever seen

Check out the entire website of the link below to see the way the dink tows and stores. Also check out how the dink can be used to propel the boat in the event of engine failure without even having to disconnect the dink from the davits. I have no association with this company and cant answer any questions you may have but I think its worth checking out.

Davits for C30

I purchased the same system as David and am very pleased with the results. It was easy to instal. During sailing I wrap two belts around the dighy and the aft rails to keep the digny tight to the davits.

Why?

Hanging a dinghy on davits puts up a lot of wind resistance. Especially on a 30 ft boat! Also puts new holes into your hull, and adds torsion strains at the davit/hull joint. I have a Cat 320 & tow a 9'6" Achilles dinghy. Done it in some rough wind/sea conditions off shore without any problem. I put a towing bridle on the dinghy, and use a 50' dock line "V" from the stern cleats to the bridle tow point "D-ring." When we pull into a marina, we just pull the nose of dinghy up close onto the stern rails, or use it as a yawlboat to nudge the beast into the slip. --Ron

C30 davits

I also have Ocean Marine Systems davits on a 1982 C30 Mk 1. Great system! Wind resistance of a hanging dinghy is not an issue with these davits. Resistance of dragging a dinghy through the water during towing is far more of a performance detriment to boat speed than aerodynamic drag of the hanging dinghy will ever be. Not to mention the threat of wind & waves flipping the dinghy over in the water.

Dinghy Tow

I have a dinghy tow system as mentioned by Rick on my C-30. It is the slickest system I've seen. Have been using it for 2 years plus and it is a great fit for the boat. The advantages are: 1. It tows the dink from the stern end with only a small amount of the bow end in the water for minimal water resistance and excellent control in rough water. 2. If you're towing an inflatable like I do, you don't get to your destination, want to use the dink and find it wet, and have to stand in a bunch of salt water. 3. If you have a small outboard, it is simple to take it on and off with the stern raised up to the back rail. 4. You can store your dinghy (in good weather)with the bow up against the backstay. I keep mine like this all summer, and basically take it off in the winter time when I use it much less frequently. Check out their web site. They have many pictures to give you an idea of how it works and looks. It is made of high quality stainless and costs about $700. This seems pretty steep (it did to me), but after having it, feel that it was worth every penny. Much better than davits in my opinion. I get inquiries about it most anywhere I go. It's a great product.
