I have a 1991 H42 that i simply love! I also have a current Raymarine axiom MFD. Does anyone know of a cost effective way to get rpm and oil pressure and engine temp. onto the axiom without the huge cost of the Maretron converter loom? Was out with the family last weekend and had to keep asking people to move their bums so i could see instrument cluster- so annoying!

following

I want the same thing for my H34 with Yanmar 3GMF. I’d also like raw water inlet and outlet cooling temp and flow rate. and engine cooling temp, and tach... all sent to NMEA2000

I just spoke to yanmar tech serv about linking my 3GMF engine to NEMA 2000, short answer "no".

BS. Both the RS11 and EMU1 can put vital engine data on N2K. I see oil pressure& temp. Coolant temp, RPM and voltage on my Raymarine CP and i70s.

can you use a J1708 to NEMA converter you directly read this data from the engines cpu?? No - they don’t have CPU’s like a common rail diesel. But you can piggy back on any sensor on the mechanical engine.

look at the PGN’s these devices support, the EMU is easier to configure and has more pgn’s but also more expensive.

here is data from my Universal M25 a 1983 engine with no computer. I also have this data available (including engine hours) via a web page on my phone or iPad.

Leslie,
Would you mind sharing what this cost you to set up in parts and labor please?
thanks,
Eian

"BS"? YES. The answer from the Yanmar tech service phone call was no, but the response to my email was "yes". See below

Hello Mike,

We were forwarded your request for a NEMA 2000 system for the Yanmar 3GMF diesel engine.
For this model engine Yanmar does not offer a system, but you might try MBW Technologies as they may be able to help you.
MBW tech offers various monitoring systems for mechanical & electronic Yanmar diesel engines. You would have to check with MBW to see if they are NEMA 2000 compatible.
Here is the contact info: ph. 267-932-8573 ext. 340 and web link: MBW Technologies | Your Motion by Wire Technology Partner

labor was free / probably 2-3 hours, but I added sensors and mounted my RS11 15’ away From the engine.

cost From my memory

oil pressure gauge/switch $25
Oil temp sensor $15
RS11 $300
SeaTalkNG T bb cable and drop $50 ( portion of 5way)
wire & ring terminals $25

I would recommend the EMU-1 over the RS11 because it’s much easier to program. It does cost a bit more tho.

you need a windows laptop To program the units. The RS11 has a USB interface for programming The EMU-1 needs a NGT-1 USB to program it.

oh wow. those pictures are total boat porn! Thank you very much, this looks like a great solution.

I checked on the MBW option suggested by Yanmar, but that was the most expensive. Since I'm just trying to add a little more intelligence to my Axiom screen, I think I'll go with the RS 11 which seems to be a few hundred dollars less expensive than the EMU-1 with the required NGT-1.

Just trying to get engine RPM and maybe engine temp to the screen.

I agree with Mike Oldak- i am trying really hard to stop pouring so much money into my boat!!

a hole in the water to pour money in :) but seriously I just saw the practical sailor articles on adding nema 2000. Thanks for the great reference.

Glad you found it, i was just about to post the site. I'm going to wait a while until I order the unit due to other boat projects already underway. I would be great if you go first to document the yanmar to RS11 set up.

I'm sourcing parts for my installation. I note that the Yanmar "cooling water temperature switch" seems to be an on/off switch which powers the warning light 95 degrees C on, 88 degrees C off. I've found that Yanmar had American and European versions of the switch depending upon the instrument panel. I note that you did not indicate whether you used a water temp senor, only an oil temp sensor. Did you use a water temp sensors vs. a switch?
