I have a Universal 12 which exhausts just below the waterline on the Port quarter. Over a period of time an exhaust stain will form over the transom and port quarter that I find very difficult to remove. I've tried "Mr. Clean's eraser", which works but requires a lot of scrubbing to get the job done. I've also tried "On & Off" which didn't work... Any product suggestions?

I have a Universal 35 and I get a diesel stain too. I use elbow grease mu boat brush and the same cleaning agent I clean my boat with to get off stain. It takes a lot of rubbing/srubbing.

Exhaust stains

I have found it worthwhile to apply a thorough wax job to the transom. Once you get the transom super clean before launching, two or three good coats of wax makes keeping things clean a little easier. The stuff will wash off better with a bristle brush and soap. It's not perfect, but better than trying to remove the stains from unwaxed fiberglass that is porous and seems to absorb the stain. The wax helps keep it on top, where it can be washed away.

Also, at haulout, an application of "cleaner wax", such as Meguiars, Mother's, 3m, etc, will help dissolve and remove any remaining stains that don't wash off easily.

Diesel Butt

My boats on a mooring so I'm use to wiping after each sail. But if you let it go it's tough to get out
