Off I go! I am taking my first trip outside of the safety of Fisher's Island Sound (1987 H23). We leave Sunday night and will anchor at Napatree. Monday AM we will leave to go to Block Island. Tuesday we return. We have no dinghy. Route? Tides? Mooring? Eats? Any details are greatly appreciated. Thanks, Richard

Do a search on block island

but select title only and original post and exact phrase. when the original posts show up they will probably be in the form of a question such as "Need block Island info" but the search will attach all the valuable replies to each original post. This voids results where you have searched for replies to such as you avoid posts such as " Yeh, my 2GM overheated at Block Island" Looks like I made a mistake in replying to wrong post of Richard. I knew I was a computer idiot.

Block Island tips

Richard, Just got back from Block myselfin my H260 and have made the trip several times, including in a Catalina 22. Here's a few pointers: 1. Get yourself an Eldridge's tide book. The tide will help you a bit, but it's not crucial. 2. You can exit the eastern end of Fisher's Island Sound through either Lord's Passage or Watch Hill Passage. Chose one, but don't go in between, because there's a reef that's become the final port of call for many a ship. 3. Go to New Harbor on the west side of Block Island. The Great Salt Pond has plenty of space for anchoring and good holding. There's also Block Island Boat Basin which has transient slips, gas, pumpout and I believe it has a launch service. It's only a short walk or cab ride to town in Old Harbor. Old Harbor is really cramped and has no services. 4. There's a restaurant in New Harbor too, at the boat basin. If I can help in any way or if you have more questions, e-mail me: zigracer@aol.com Greg Any other questions you

How was the trip?

Richard, how was your trip? I've been thinking about this same trip myself. I'm in New London at Burrs. I've been overnighting to Napa Tree Point and to Shelter Island. Thought I could do Block Island in one day with the right tides, then stay in New Harbor somewhere.
