Just bought a 1988 c-30 and found that the depth finder only occasionally reads proper depth...mostly it just flashes "2.2". Anyone seen this, or have ideas what to check. Should the display unit be brought in for service or is it the transducere? I checked the cabling to the back of the unit and found that their was a slice in the coax about six inches before connector. Thanks in advance! Jim

It May Be Confused

Jim, If it was only happening occasionally in sheltered waters it is sometimes caused by sediment or other stuff being suspended in thermoclines. The Raytheon gauges seem to pick 2.2 to display when they are totally confused. It was typical for me to see that in late summer in the Greenwich area of NG Bay. If you are seeing 2.2 mostly everywhere you go I would suggest diving down and cleaning the transducer with a stiff brush. If you don't use "transducer anti-fouling paint" you probably should. Me Too

I have an '85 Cat 27. It has a Signet Marine, System 1000. I'm having about the same problems. I seem to be getting good readings (sometimes) in water 15 feet or less.

Sent mine in

I sent mine in with out the transducer. Should have. I reinstalled and it worked in deep water but not when I came back to the marina. ( Clean transducer and adjust gain control) Good luck Gary

Transducer in water?

I have a Signet depth sounder that is not through hull. The transducer must be in water to read correctly. If it's not the readout flashes 18.8. Maybe your is also like this.
