Just got home from an afternoon sail on SF bay. It was great! We finally got to test out the new winches, traveler, vang, clutches, etc. After work, work, work it was nice to sail, sail, sail! We left the slip at noon with 8 kt winds and the temp at 57, sailed in fairly mild bay conditions due to a flood tide with max wind gusts at 25 or so... finishing at 6 PM with winds at 12 kts and the temp at 63 degrees. This was my first opportunity to try out the new reefing sytstem, too. (I reefed a little later than I should have...I know, reef when you FIRST think about it and I thought about it about 10 kts earlier...
My Catlalina 30 TRBS sails perfectly in 15 kt winds with a 135 jib. No weather helm at all. After playing And as we have discussed on this forum, furling the jib to maybe 110 and leaving the main unreefed adds quite a bit of weather helm. A single reefed main and 135 jib worked very well in 20-25 kt winds by keeping the CE forward. Just wanted to share. How is your spring sailing going!?Chris
