I own a 2000 Hunter 260. I've had the boat for just 3 years and have fitted new sails rigging and many upgrades and we do sail the boat which the previous owner did not, using it as a weekend glamping boat. We like to get the "Windows wet" but don't sail her in anything over 15 knots, she is a cruiser after all.
After a great sail today on our local "Payette" lake in Idaho, my wife lay down on slip at the marina to soak in the sun and suddenly shouted to me, "Holly crap, you better come see this!"
The front of the top deck under the fore stay/Furler is pulling off the hull. the top deck was raised a good 1/2 inch off the hull tapering back about 2 ft.
I slackened the shrouds a few turns on each side and when my wife stood on the top deck and it pushed back down YIKES!
I am a very practical guy and a design engineer, so very used to dealing with fabrication issues, but this feels like a huge problem.
It seems like the fore stay attachment bracket is connected to the top deck and not through the deck and to the hull, which is surprising to me.
But anyway, has anyone had this issue, is there a fix.. Help?
Thanks for any help.
Clive.
