Friend Steve will post that you should use gelcoat. Most of us use a good Interlux or Petit paint. Best is a two-part like Interlux Perfection. I used a one-part called Toplac because I work alone and cannot roll and tip fast enough to keep a wet edge. But it has held up well over the years. Then I masked off all the "white" and used Interlux Interdeck for the non-skid.

Thank you friend Ed!

If you have the ability, paintable/rollable gelcoat is a good choice. It is what was used on the original boats and it lasted for 20 + years on most boats.

If you are not up to that task then I would suggest Kiwi Grip (sold on this website). We have a few boats that have used it in our marina and it looks great. One coat no need to add sand/grit to the paint. If you do follow directions, it will look like a factory job. If you need to touch it up you can usually do it without re-masking unless it is right on the edges.

In my opinion paint is a never ending battle and it only looks as good as the ability of the person applying it (similar to gelcoat), but has a limited life for an actively used boat.

I used Kiwi Grip on my 1983 h-30 last year with excellent results. Clean deck with detergent. Did a minor sand with 80 grit just to give th Kiwi Grip a little tooth. Mask well with tape. Tip is to let the Kiwi Grip dry only about 15 minutes and remove the tape. It will keep the edges sharp.
