If you have the ability, paintable/rollable gelcoat is a good choice. It is what was used on the original boats and it lasted for 20 + years on most boats.
If you are not up to that task then I would suggest Kiwi Grip (sold on this website). We have a few boats that have used it in our marina and it looks great. One coat no need to add sand/grit to the paint. If you do follow directions, it will look like a factory job. If you need to touch it up you can usually do it without re-masking unless it is right on the edges.
In my opinion paint is a never ending battle and it only looks as good as the ability of the person applying it (similar to gelcoat), but has a limited life for an actively used boat.
