Dead diesel

A good friend of mine who sails with me on the Chesapeake Bay (Deltaville) has a 1981 Catalina 30' with a Universal 11 HP diesel engine. The engine has recently died due to overheating, which cracked the block. Not having a lot of money to spend she is trying to come up with a used engine or rebuilt engine to replace the broken one. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated; it will be a long autumn in the slip without a replacement engine. My e-mail address is dahutchi@rrha.state.va.us and my telephone number during the day is (804) 780-4323.

Atomic

Thousands of boats (Catalinas and others) are out there with old, gas Atomic 4s. I've seen used ones advertised here in the Midwest. That might work. Good luck.

Check local sailing rags

She might be able to find some in there. Also ask around boat yards or local marine engine installer. They have to do something with all the old engines! LaDonna

possible fix

You may be able to fix the block if you can find a good welder ,ie arc with nickle rod.
