That’s what I am doing next. I forgot to bring the multimeter with me last time.

I say this because I've tested piles of these outlets with FLIR imaging and 7.5A is what is safest and develops the least heat. 5A is even safer... I would not run any of them at 15A, not even the locking ones, especially after corrosion sets in or spring tension gets weaker over time. I also would never, ever suggest running a 30A shore power circuit at 100% of its "rating" but people do it and we have the boat fires and marina fires as a result.
Just circling back on this as I looked into it more. As you know I happen to like the Marinco 12V plug and receptacle. They are well made, and lock together very tightly, and are supposedly waterproof when mated. I have three sockets on hand, and only one plug left. So, I looked up the plug part number and ordered three more plugs - a bargain at arrow. com for about $4 each.

The plug, it turns out, has an integral 10A fuse, and the spec says the plug is rated at 10A. You could certainly put in a lower value fuse, like 7.5A, as @Maine Sail recommends, and have a safe connection.

SOLVED: mystery solved. Replaced the 1A fuse for the Panel Light switch. That switch also turns on both the “cigarette lighter” adapter as well as the USB port i have just below it. Thanks everyone for your comments, ideas and humor.

I wonder how long that one amp fuse will hold?

:plus:

I’m surprised they’d use a 1A fuse for that. Just charging a couple iPads could exceed that. Unless the 1A fuse only enables the circuitry, and there’s some other higher overcurrent protection in addition.
