I have a 1987 Catalina 27 with a Datamarine S-200DL depthfinder. Recently it started displaying "MSD" and a permanent reading of 18.8 feet. Occasionally it flashs the correct depth for a second or so. If the transducer cable is disconnected, it only shows "MSD". I tried to measure the transducer resistance with a multimenter, but it was seemed to read zero. The instruction book does not indicate what it should read. Options are to repair this one or upgrade to another. Does anyone have experence with similar problems with the S-200DL, having sounders repaired at Datamarine or installing a replacement? Is there a direct replacement, i.e. 4-1/8'' mounting hole plus same transducer? How critical is it to keep the transducer face clean? I just had a bottom job, but the problem mentioned occured before. Thanks, Bob

DMI Marine

Bob, I have the same unit on my 87 C36, and last year DMI Marine repaired it for a very reasonable cost. Datamarine has essentially gone out of business, and a number of their former employees bought out their spare parts. At least that's what I was told. You should give them a call. They sounded very knowledgeable. Good Luck. Link is below: http://www.dmimarine.com/
