Cutless bearing replacement questions

Rent the tool and not get into removing the shaft which would be a big deal and $$$$$$$$$$$$$ so save yourself a lot
of hard work and who knows what else will go wrong and rent a puller for the prop and should be so much easy with the tool.

Au contraire, mon ami. It's not "proper" vs "wrong" spelling.
I don't want to argue, but from what I know, "Cutless bearing" is a trademarked name; whereas the generic name is a "stave bearing" or a "water lubricated shaft bearing". A cutlass is a marine term, as well, but it refers to a short sword with a somewhat curved blade.

One of the larger stern bearing manufacturers in the world, Vetus, calls their bearings "Cutlass Bearings" ..
