Cutlass Bearing Change

Does anyone have any suggestions or experience to share regarding changing the cutlass bearing on my 2002 Catalina 350 (hull #3)? Since there is no way to get in front of the bearing to push it out, I'm concerned that if I can"t "pull" it out or damage it I would then have to remove the shaft (and thus the rudder) to finish the extraction of the old bearing. Any comments? Dan

Our organization has .....

... available to them a Strut Pro cutlass bearing removal tool. It (and other tools) is owned by the technical editor and he lends it out to the members of the club. I happen to have the tool now and will be replacing my cutlass bearing this week-end. It allows you to remove and replace the bearing w/o removing the rudder or prop shaft. See www.strutpro.com

I believe that the C350s

have their cutless bearing encased in the hull and not in a strut. Dan, how about trying the C350 website or email list?

tougher job than I thought

Maybe you'll have to call Catalina...I will be interested to find out how it is done since I have a friend with a 350 too. Please keep us informed.
