cruising on a Catalina 30

My Wife and I are in the market for a 28-34' sailboat to cruise. We plan to cruise the east coast,Tennessee river lakes and gulf of Mexico. We'd also like to spend some time in the Bahamas. We have recieved mixed opinions on a Catalina 30. Most of this area is known for light wind conditions that is why we like the idea of a lighter boat. Many of the Blue Water boats seem to need a gale to move. Any information will be appreciated.Tom

Cruising in a C30

The C30 is an ideal boat for what you intend to use it for. As for the Bahamas you may want to upgrade some items, however, many C30's have done it before

Catalina is a Good Choice

c172guy, For the coastal and a bit beyond the Catalina is the perfect boat in between the lightweights that get beat up in a blow or bounced around in chop and the slugs you speak of. You mention a c30 but if your price range extends to a c34 I think that would be much better suited to the long distance cruising you listed. The c34 with a Tall Rig and a double reef set up in the main will give you the best for both worlds of light air sailing and the Gale you might get caught in offshore.Stan"Christy Leigh"c320 #656
