How accurate are "Cove Stripes", when trying to identify the make of a boat? I found a used boat for sale, a 37' yawl, advertised as a Grampian "Walthrop". Not only have I been unable to find ANY mention of a "Walthrop", but I've been told that Gramps don't come in a 37' size. According to its USCG regi, hull #295228 was manufactured in Oakdale, Canada in 1964, and grosses 9 tons. That's it. So...(here comes the point, bear with me) Today I was surfing G.O.B.'s website, and saw their page on "cove stripes". The bow shot of the head of the stripe (they don't show a tail) for a Grampian didn't look ANYTHING like mine, so I scrolled down until I reached "S". The head and tail of a "Swan" look exactly like mine, but Swans are HUGE, and weren't made until '66. Can anyone tell me how to find some info on this boat?

Looks like a "Bounty", built in Ontario about that time. I know where there is another for sale, it is a 40 though.

National Documentation Center Name Query .....

If ever this boat was federally documented there is a way to trace ------ Go to http://www.st.nmfs.gov/st1/commercial/landings/cg_vessel2.html, type in name on stern ..... should give full documentation registry .... Builder, last owner, when lat time in documentation, stats, etc. etc. etc. If it has a documentation number (should be located somewhere on the inside of boat near the starboard bow) you can also find its documentation history by that number through the same CG/NOAA/National Fisheries website.

HIN? *o

What's the first 3 letters of the HIN? This may give us a clue to the identity.
