1 what is the watt to amp conversion



2 what is the sgnifigance of a 36' boat?
i know a 27' is the smallest of the big boat class so where does the 36' fit in? is a 37' or 38'change that much in build or ammenities?

I'm noticing a few 36'ers with really good prices on them early '70's models so they'll be pretty solid ?

You cannotconvert watts to amps, since watts are power and amps are coulombs per second (like converting gallons to miles). However, if you have at least least two of the following three: amps, volts and watts then the missing one can be calculated. Since watts are amps multiplied by volts, there is a simple relationship between them.

Boat size is very misleading. It's kind of like the richtor scale for earthquakes. A small increase in length means a huge increase in volume and displacement. Example: a 30' sailboat might displace 7000lbs whereas a 40' might displace 20,000lbs, nearly triple the weight for a mere 30% increase in length.

ya but theres a line where the jump is more pronounced than another or is it just me like 26' is still small boat but 27' is big boat?

Good observation. Here's mine. C22 to C25 doubled the volume with a whole different "feeling" looking from the cockpit forward to the bow. All of a sudden we went from a small boat to a BIG boat in terms of the proportions of the hull, width to length. C25 to C34 didn't feel like a big jump. The hull proportions were pretty much the same and the gear we had on the C25 for sailing were on the C34 or easily added (i.e., vang, cunningham, lines led aft, reefing setup, etc.)

Much has to do with your experience, too.

Then there's the whole issue of bigger boats having more systems to learn to maintain. C22 to C25 - no difference. C25 to C34 - night and day: diesel, electrical systems, plumbing. So, I bought a book!

so 15amps at 240v should be just about all this generator can handle?
i notice that the wire feeder run a little colder when in this configuration so i turn it up a little more.think i need to upgrade soon. thanx guys

the jump in size is relative. For me the move from a 27 to my 34 was significant. Tiller to wheel, outboard to inboard, much longer deck, wider and heavier. And many more systems! Casey books, Calder books, Yanmar books, electronics manuals--the "library" fills a Rubbermaid tub!

Sailing, though, is a whole 'nother world! What a difference!
