A couple of miscellaneous questions: 1. Does anybody have the address for the C30 e-mail list? I've lost it. 2. I'm having trouble reefing my main. The jiffy reefing line on the after end works fine, but on the forward end, at the luff, there is no hook on the boom near the gooseneck. Isn't there supposed to be? What do the rest of y'all do--just use a reefing line? Or am I missing something? 3. My depthmeter seems to have died an untimely death, and I'm now in shoal-infested water that requires one. The yard says that I'll have to haul the boat to put in a new depthfinder transponder ... this doesn't sound right to me. If it is right, is it possible to use some other method which won't require hauling (and I do mean electronic method, not involving a lead line thankyou). Thanks.

1.http://members.sailnet.com/email_lists 2. My C30 has two cleats, one on each side of the mast. A line runs from one cleat, up thru the reefing cringle and back down to the other cleat. The line ties off thru the cleat base and is long enough to reach when the sail is fully raised. When reefed, cleat off the slack. 3. The email list just had a long discussion on mounting transducers inside the hull. Just put a big glob of silicone inside the hull under the V berth and set the transducer in the silicone. It is important that there are no air bubbles in the silicone. This works well for many of us. Mine has been just fine for two years (it was recommended to me by the manufacturer of the depth meter). I may remove my old non-working x-ducer from the thru hull at my next haul out and mount it properly, but I dont feel it is necessary.

Rick, thanks for the info ... a question about the depthfinder, though: which one to you use?

tack hooks or down haul hooks

I have a down haul hook on each side of the mainsail tack. That is the bolt goes through the fastener on the spar, through the port hook, through the Tack eve, throught the starboard hook and then through the fastener on the spar. If you have west marine catalog look on page 957. When reefing I just hook the reefing eye to whichever hook is leeward. The second hook is still available if I have to take a second tuck.

Tell me more, por favor. It sounds like the transducer is midships, or is it under the V berth? How did you attach it to the hull? And the readout unit--does the wire from the transducer just run out the companionway to the pedestal? I'm having a hard time picturing it ...
