OK so Ive got a relatively small galley (very small in fact!) in a Mirage 27. Wanting to replace sink, gas cooker currently cut out of fibreglass countertop. Not wanting to spend a huge amount of $$$ but wondering what options there are out there to put some kind of sheet countertops over the fibreglass so I can change the shape of the existing cutouts ?
If you can find a piece of solid surface countertop material, like Corian, that can look pretty cool. I did that in my head, made a slide out countertop and basin. When I got to the galley and dinette, however, I needed to replace or re cover old faded laminate surface. Way too much work. So I went to Benjamin Moore paint store (rather than a big box paint dept I recommend specialty stores that cater to professional painters. They will have the expertise to help you get it right the first time.) Anyway, they helped me decide on the right primer, a must for painting over laminate, then suggested the right topcoat to give me the bright, durable, slick finish I wanted for the inside. I couldn't have been happier with the result, the white counter and tabletop look fantastic with the teak and cherry cabinets.
