As Yogi said, “It ain’t over til its over”...Here in tidewater Va its seesaw weather- 70 one day, 40 the next. the daffodils and some azaleas are blooming already, just waiting for that inevitable spring snowstorm.
I know its going to arrive, I just put my house on the market!

Yah, but you know what they say, in like a lion and out like a lamb, I drove home from Louisville today the white stuff covering the ground from about Dayton North, you have a couple of UFO's in your picture, while a beautiful scene I was ready for it to be over before it started.
That's a picture of the 14th tee. Golfers were playing there just a few days ago.

Should be. A couple weeks ago there was just a little skim ice. A few years ago guys were sailing their iceboats!

Still ice covered here but rivers have broken up. I don't think I'd walk on it. I wondered what a difference nearly 4 degrees of latitude might make.

Yeah. For instance, you've heard the term, "lake effect snow" and the complaints that follow? Well, if they'd just FILL IN THE LAKES, there'd be no more snow!

6 deg F (actually, we are usually about 3 deg colder on the Hill, than the reported temps in town), 6:23am, Feb 29. Looks like a pretty typical Winter day. My chickens only have a tiny bit of frostbite on their combs this Winter, so I guess it has been pretty mild this year.

Darn. I thought there would be frost bitten chickens in the picture. Never seen chickens with frost bite. I even zoomed in on the image. Just a day break in the hills of NH on a winter morning. Looks cold with the need of a fire in the stove and a hot cup of java.

Not unlike waking in Fairbanks on a February morning, only it was -10 according to the radio report and I didn’t want to open my mouth for fear my tongue would freeze as I exhaled.

ps. it was 11am.

Where are the chickens?

Those Blue Hen’s of Delaware, the Jersy Giants, the Bantom Hens, New Hampshire’s
Plymouth Rocks, or Rhode Island Red’s?

This is Tammy Wynette, an ISA Brown. The little black spots on the tips of her comb are frostbite. Pretty mild this year. I built a nice insulated coop, so they don't actually suffer as much as most free range chickens do.

We also have Plymouth Rock, a variety of Polishes, Wyandottes, Orpingtons, Faverolles, and Silkies. The turkey is Peteypie, one of two survivors from the Great Bear War of 2019.
