I have an alcohol stove that when lighting it, almost burns the boat up.
I have been told there is a similar stove that is flamless, but still works with alcohol.
Any thoughts?
woody's right. If the cost of those good stoves is prohibitive for you, consider using a LOT less alcohol in the startup burner. You really don't need a whole lot to get the burner hot.
Check out the "Cookmate" stoves. Knockoff Origos for a lot less money. http://www.swego.com/store/pc/viewCategories.asp?idCategory=12
Only fire I've ever had in 30 years on the water was from a pressurized alcohol stove and I wouldn't have another.
I dont know what stove you have by your post, but if you do a search for origo or cookmate flame diffuser and either get it for your stove, or build something similar, it may help with the problem....
