Continuous furling line splice... now what?

I recently completed an end to end splice on a new 1/2" continuous furling line for my Hood furler on my Cat 30.......and the splice won't fit through the lead blocks that are mounted on my stanchions.

I can't find blocks that would accommodate the bigger diameter spliced area and also thought about using fairleads.......with no success.

Any ideas?????

Well, 1/2" seems pretty large for a 30 foot boat. Is that what Hood recommends? I think your options are pretty clear.... go with 3/8" line... or 5/16" higher quality.

These furlers do require a pretty fat line, so that the teeth in the drum have more surface area to grab onto. I have an 810, which I have seen on several Cat 30s, and for that model Hood calls for a 7/16 line, as I recall. So, maybe a slightly smaller line, but an end for end splice should not have a bulge; a redo seems in order.

The key word in this is constant diameter endless splice

I am mediocre at it having only taken it on when i could not get it done i found with massive stretching it should skinny down as it is a weak splice dependent on the outer jacket

The worn line that I replaced is a 1/2". Truthfully, I'm trying not to have to re-splice and am looking for an easier way out......

The bulge in my splice is maybe....a hair bigger than the one shown in your photo. Does your line hang up at all?

Did you try rolling it out and milking it some more? That may help to orient some of the strands and smooth things out.

I agree.. wet it with a heavy dish soap/water solution then roll it and milk it.. Roll it by standing full weight on it and sliding your shoes/feet over it while it rolls on deck. Milk it from mid splice outwards toward the ends of the splice.
