"Compromise" everything for what YOU want/need!
All boats are a compromise. What did you compromise with your current boat?
With my first boat (MacGregor 19), I compromised almost everything else for ease of sailing, trailerability, liveability (or at least sleep-over-ability) and PRICE. I was really new to sailing, and she was a The only way she has "played me wrong" is in resale-ability, and I blame myself for putting her on the market this last fall. Yeah, right, sell a sailboat in November!
I traded up to a Mac 26X to get stand-up headroom and enough boat to stay aboard for more extended time - but also to retain the trailerability and avoid too-high a price. I can use Bossa Nova as a funny-shaped camper, anchor out with an inflatable kayak as a dinghy, and learn if I could be comfortable making a boat my home. (This one's not enough to be my house, but big enough to "play house" and find out.)
Okay, she's not as portable as an Opti, or as exciting as a Laser, or as luxurious as a Cabo Rico. But all of those are compromises, too!
Bossa Nova is not impressive, not luxurious, not racing-fast, and she won't handle "the perfect storm" at sea; but she can get to Florida from Maryland in a couple of days (on I-95), and she can be halfway to Kansas on her trailer before the storm makes landfall in Fort Lauderdale. Not too many hurricanes make it to Kansas.
Bottom line: Choose the boat that does what YOU want, and why worry about the compromises? Stack 'em your way!
