AT 5 a.m. Thursday, I was nearing Sabine Pass from Galveston when I got hit on the nose with 30 kts of wind. I turned tail, under gib alone, and sailed the 30 miles back to Galveston Bay doing as much as 9.5 kts. in 12 foot seas. Then dropped the hook in the mud near the east acces to the ICW for a night of rocking and rolling in The Bay. During gthe night in the rough anchorage my compression post made a lot of noise like I had not heard ever before. What's up? Anyone have the same problem. Jim McClung, S/ V Drum

There is lots of information and pictures on this site about this topic. Mine never made noise but when I learned about the design I replaced it before it puked. Inspect the deck and the cross beam in the cabin. Remove the teak trim if you really want to know what's going on there. Over time as the spruce post fails the teak will actually carry some of the load and you may observe bend in the fiberglass where it meets the tak trim
