Are sails from any other popular mass production boat compatable or
interchangable with the VEGA?

Catalina 25 headsails fit. Cruising Sails Direct is a good source for prebuilt ones. Bill Bach V1071

The asymmetrical spinnaker on the Tern, it was on the boat when I
bought her, was originally from a Catalina 25 and it fits fine
(thesailwarehouse.com is another source). And speaking of which, I
should say thanks for the earlier suggestions on flying the
spinnakers. I had not thought I would use them, had taken them off
the boat even, and then read one of your posts Wilhelm and figured I
should give them a try. It has certainly added a new dimension to
sailing and made for an interesting summer. I'm pretty comfortable
with the asymmetrical, and gaining confidence with the poled out
symmetrical. To be honest, pushing down that knot in my stomach
before I hoist has been, is, more difficult than actually sailing
them. Anyway, thanks for the help.

Hi all,
One of the things on my list is a swim platform and a step on the back of my Vega. This would help in deploying and getting in/out of a dingy, as well as getting people into the boat from the water. Pets might like it too..

Anyway, after one of the recent posts here on the vega list, the one about the outboard engine getting ripped off of the transom? I have been wondering about the swim platform.

So my question is..
In big water, how would a swim platform do? Would it affect seaworthyness? Get ripped off the back with a big wave?

Thanks,
roy

Roy, maybe you could build it on hinges so that it flips up when not in
use. Trev (v2915)

I put a little stainless folding step on the transom mounted at the top of the boot top maybe a foot from the edge of the transom. I can easily get out of the water by grabbing the deck edge and putting my foot on the step. Nice safety feature, and handy. I tell my wife it's our swim platform.Nicholas Walsh

I don't hear to many stories about swim platforms getting ripped off by waves. I don't imagine anyone would be out there in those conditions if they could help it, but things don't always go as planned. I would say there is more of a chance of backing down onto something and damaging it. I have a monitor wind vane on #2930 and it is very useful in getting out of the water and back onto the boat, but is of no use as a "platform" The ability to use it to aid in boarding was a contributing factor to my purchasing it. Just keep in mind; if you ever plan on doing any long distance type cruising you will not be able to have both the swim platform and a wind vane. I had to remove a fold down stainless ladder from the transom to install the vane. Either one is a great piece of equipment to add to your Vega.
