The cover over my companion way is very difficult to slide back especially when you are inside the cabin. Between the lack of leverage and the resistance, it is almost impossible to open it at times. Help. Trapped

SuperLube

I use SuperLube on everything. It keeps the companionway hatch on my C27 sliding smoothly. I use it to lube the Y valve in the head, lube the stainless steel turnbuckles on the shrouds, and to keep eggs from sticking to the skillet, and it has no cholesterol. companion way cover

I have teflon strips attached on the silde areas of the cover. It slides very easily. The strips are about the thickness of a penny which we place under the hatch boards, thus raising them to fit the new height of the modified cover height. Tom Behrendt

Japanese Glide Tape

Had trouble with hatch due to boat's age and normal wear. Tried various sprays with only short term improvement. Recently installed a short piece of "Japanese Glide Tape" from APS (http://www.apsltd.com/). This is a ridged tape that greatly reduces the friction. The tape is fairly stiff so I was able to slide about a 8-10" piece under each side of the hatch. I think a roll is $15-20. Cheap for a boat repair.

Glide Tape works great!

Chris, I followed your suggestion and ordered the slide tape. I taped it on this weekend and it works great! I gave the left overs to others at my marina and made a lot of new friends. Thanks for the suggestion! That was an easy fix for a common problem.
