You will do best to use the galley stove.
Speaking of which, where can one buy alcohol for a stove? What kind of alcohol does it use?
Don't want to highjack this thread but I don't want to start a new one over a simple question.

I use to have one in my van for traveling. It took maybe an hour to perk. Unless they have been improved, I suggest you stop at a 7-11 barge for coffee.
Good idea... may I suggest, however, a senior coffee at your local Mac D float through!!! Way better coffee than 7-11. on the ICW near St. Pete.

Thanks to all of you who responded. Not sure which set up we'll use, but it certainly won't be one of the 12V coffeemakers. Appreciate your help!

French press is great, we haven't had a coffee maker for years (though we have an espresso machine now). We have a few presses, but we prefer (Bodum), I like the insulated stainless steel one for the boat because it's durable, big, and keeps the coffee warmer longer. The grind doesn't need to be that course, you just have to be aware that there may be some sediment on the bottom of the cup and I usually avoid the very last sip.

We bought a 8 cup stainless steel percolator from a local sporting goods store. $20.00 I also put a small filter in it for easy clean up. From start to finish on a non pressurized alcohol stove 15 min. or so.

Coffee on board

We use the Coleman camp perculator and a thermos. It does take about 20 minutes to make 12 cups though.

Having tried several 12 volt units, I echo the stainless steel insulated French Press recommendation. We picked up our press at REI..

While on the coffee topic, but sorta off topic anyone else roast their own? We've been doing it for a couple of years are really enjoy the coffee we roast. We don't have a very good coffee selection for the price around here. I find it to be a rewarding thing to do and great coffee, total control over your coffee, and much cheaper than buying gourmet roasted beans.

starbucks makes a decent instant coffee you can use if you just boil some water. I'm not as fan on instant coffee but this happens to be my except to the rule. That is what I would do for coffee onboard.

Rob:

That is expensive instant coffe at $0.70/cup.

We get our coffee in individual bags (1 bag = 1 pot) for about $.035/ pot at Costco.
Boil the water and pour it in the Melitta. We use a thermal carfe which keeps the coffe hot for hours. It is really great for an early morning cruise out.

The Admiral drinks coffee, I don't. We tried the 12v and even with 2 fully charged batteries (one starting, one deep cycle) we couldn't get it to do anything. We now bring a thermos of hot water, or heat it on the Origo, and she uses the Starbucks instant.

Have tried many options but after 30 years, use only my old Farberware stove top percolator. A bit bigger than the current link above. It's quick, efficient and makes great boat coffee. Always use a basket filter.

You got it... it's a little long winded, so pour a cup or pint depending on what time of day you read it ;). I just wanted to be thorough...

I use a JetBoil, self contained cooking system, with a french press. I use it for camping, boating, power outages, you name it. My wife drinks tea so we just bought an extra cup to heat water for her. Kinda pricey but considering the use we get out of it, well worth it.

Of course I always thought cleanup to be a PITA, so i think I will check out njsail's suggestion.
