cockpit scupper

The scuppers in my OD 28 are the type of scupper that stand proud of the scupper trough. When water gets in the trough it simply sloshes back and forth and never gets completely dry. I know there are flush mount scupper fittings. Does anyone know the size scupper I need to replace the fittings?

Same Project this Summer

Mike, You're right; the water just lays there between the two drains and leaves a mess. I am planing to do the same thing this summer installing flush mount drains in the trough. I have not determind the size of the fitting yet. It will have to be a take it apart and run to West Marine. One thing that you need to look at is the plumbing underneath the deck. I have been all over and under my O'28 and am very pleased with the construction. However, when I spotted a leak coming from that direction under the cockpit floor, I crawled into the locker to take a closer look. What a mess!! It could have been from the PO, but it sure looked like some Friday afternoon quiting time fix from the factory. It will be easy to rectify, but I suggest that you get down in the locker and inspect that part of the installation also. PM

A scupper fitting which is flush mounted is one where the fitting doesn't stand above the cockpit sole drain trough. The type O'day installed as original hardware would be better suited as a below the water line through hull or a fitting to allow the bilge pump hose to exit the transom. The flush fittings are in most marine supply catalogues. They are more or less funnel shaped instead of muchroom shaped.
