St Pete Marina

The Ship's Store at the St Pete Municipal Marina (727-823-2555) has CNG bottle exchange, drop off empty, pick up full one. If they have stopped offering the service, I am sure they will be able to tell you where else it is available in St Pete. Brad

Try This...

I hope it helps. I hope it's still available. I have that in my boat. Fortunately, I have a gas dealer near me. http://www.safgas.com/locations.html It shows one in St. Pete's. Also try Burnt Store Marina in Port Charlotte.

Nope!

I very much appreciate everyones effort but still no cng dealer. What's up with this stuff? Why did the boat builders stop installing cng stoves? Like everything else, it must be about "the Money". thanks, Jack

Should be available

My Ericson used CNG, which I loved as a fuel, but which was a real pain to get refills for. I finally learned about this site: http://www.eere.energy.gov/afdc/infrastructure/refueling.html which allows you to locate filling stations that have CNG pumps. It says there are 3 within a 25 mile radius of Tampa Bay. The next trick is how to fill them. I had been paying $50 each for a refill, but I then found a filling adaptor for sale from these folks: http://www.corpbrothers.com/marine.htm The adaptor that allowed me to fill up my tanks was $140, but with it I was able to fill 4 tanks for about $1.98 total cost in methane gas. The problem you will find is that Corp Brothers quite selling the adaptor, so you are on your own for coming up with the equipment you need. The reason was that some of the filling stations are now 3600 or 4500 psig, and you can only use up to 3000 psi in your tank and still be safe. You might be able to put it together if you visit a compressed gas supplier. When I sold my boat I gave away the adaptor to a friend, because I also did not want the liability of having someone mess up using it. CNG is great stuff is that it is lighter than air, but in every other way it is a pain. It has fewer BTUs than LPG, and you can store much less on board. One tank only lasts about 20 hours of single burner time, so we easily went through our two tanks in a 4 week cruise, with no possibility of getting a refill while on holiday. Steve Christensen

No CNG stoves, because No CNG

It was never available much outside of the US, where propane/LPG or butane are pretty much what you find. Check the archives for info on conversion to LP - you MUST move the tank - CNG tanks are always stored low and that is no-no for LP If money were no object I would buy one of the diesel stoves from Europe (the ones from New England are all too big)

Wow, No CNG in Florida {except Miami}

Thanks to everyone for their responses and ideas. I could find it in Miami and that was the only place still dealing with the stuff. The links that were provided were out of date with many #'s disconnected, althou I do appreicate the effort. If someone does find cng in the central florida area please let me know. thanks, jack scoyne@tampabay.rr.com
