The main on my 89 C27 needs cleaning. A recent post suggested using oxiclean. I'd take the sail off and put it in a 37 gal. new garbage can.

I had a hot flash and wondered why I couldn't put it in my spa with clean water and oxiclean and agitate it for an hour or two. I have to find out if oxiclean/spa/clean water are compatable. Perhaps Borax would be an alternative. All comments would be welcome. I will call my spa man in a few minutes but I would bet that there are some chemists on this site who could offer advice. I use bromine tablets so the system must be tough.

I'd appreciate any thoughts/suggestions. My email address (if you prefer to use it) is 'jcottert2@juno.com'.

Thanks,

Cotter

I would be very wary of using Oxiclean or any other harsh type of cleaners on your sails. If they contain any type of synthetic bleach or harsh abrasives they can destroy dacron. I would stick to a commercially available sail cleaner. I bought some at West marine that worked O.K. but non of em really get out mildew spots. Anything that can remove mildew & rust stains will likely damage the sail cloth.
